Every year, the weekend before the 4th of July weekend, the Hill comes alive with flags and patriotic bunting displayed on the homes and along the sidewalk all along Ninth Street.
On the Saturday of that week, we conduct a ceremony at the Greater Lafayette Museum of Art honoring the veterans of past wars, celebrating our country's "birthday" and nurturing the patriotism associated with the 4th of July. We never miss singing "God Bless America".
Then, of course, the hillers all gather at someone's home to eat and visit. A good time is always had by all!
In this picture from a past Festooned Fourth, Mrs. Ball, dressed as Betsy Ross, greets a couple of younger participants. She is accompanied by Uncle Sam (John Graham).
